Year 2000 Tool for Microsoft Access
New Version of Total Access Inspector 2000 Available

VIENNA, VA — February 1, 1999 — FMS, Inc., the world’s leading third-party developer of Microsoft ® (NASDAQ: MSFT) Access products and the leading researcher into Year 2000 issues for Microsoft Access, is pleased to announce the release of the latest versions of its popular TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 program. Originally released in July 1998, TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 is the most comprehensive Year 2000 tool available for Microsoft Access.

Two new versions of TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 are now available: Version 2.1 for Access 2.0, and Version 8.1 for Access 97. Both versions were enhanced with several new features. First, three new reports are available to analyze query fields, similar to the existing reports for fields in tables. The reports list all fields, only date/time fields, or suspected date-related fields from queries. Second, the object cross-reference reports are enhanced to show more detail for references from form and report controls. Third, reports for listing detected Year 2000 issues by risk category now include descriptions of the risk categories. Finally, searching for user defined input mask settings is now available.

TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 detects specific Year 2000 problems such as date fields, format settings, input masks, control widths for displaying four-digit years properly, import/export date settings, external file references, ActiveX and DLL usage, date usage in code, and much more. Data analysis is also performed to verify data stored in tables. Using its extensive searching feature, TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 also identifies date related words throughout the database. Developers can customize the list of search strings by adding their own words or exclude words to minimize false hits. All the results are stored in Access tables available to the Access developer. Fifty-three reports are included ranging from five summary "executive" level reports, detailed lists of issues sorted by risk, issue type or object, and additional cross-reference and analysis reports. Most reports can be filtered by object or issue type.

In addition to detecting specific date or Year 2000 issues, TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 also provides the information necessary to fix problems and find issues that cannot be detected automatically. For instance, Field Cross-Reference reports are available so that once a date or date related field is detected, its use by other objects is known. Data analysis reports quickly reveal invalid date data or fields that contain date or year information. The Form Control Analysis report shows for each form, every one of its controls and its date related settings to make sure properties are set consistently. Finally, Macro and Module printouts simplify the work required to examine code.

User Comments
Launched in July 1998, TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000 has received rave reviews from programmers in Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and other organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad, as well as critical acclaim from independent reviewers.

A project manager from a major accounting firm said "I can’t imagine programming without Total Access Inspector 2000!" A systems analyst from a major insurance company remarked "Total Access Inspector 2000 is indispensable! It thoroughly checks your application for Year 2000 readiness." Sal Ricciardi of PC Magazine, mentioned. "FMS designs and develops the best Access add-on products I’ve seen…I highly recommend Total Access Inspector 2000, because preparing an application for the year 2000 can be tedious, error-prone, and very time-consuming. Total Access Inspector 2000 is a detective that searches through your Access database and helps you find potential year 2000 problems. You can then view or print a variety of reports that highlight the objects and items you need to review."

Created by the Year 2000 Experts
"Many Year 2000 products now claim to support Access, while others even claim to fix things," said Luke Chung, founder and president of FMS, Inc. "However, most of these products are adapted from Year 2000 tools for other platforms and are limited in what they can detect in Access. Unless it’s a Microsoft Access add-in like TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000, certain parts of Access are totally unreachable, and problems will occur if developers have security or startup routines. FMS led the research into Year 2000 issues in Microsoft Access. There simply is no other tool that detects as many Year 2000 issues in Access as TOTAL ACCESS INSPECTOR 2000, and using a Year 2000 tool that detects fewer Year 2000 issues is a waste of time for achieving Year 2000 compliance."
