Microsoft has provided an easy mechanism to take your ASP.NET 2.0 site offline to perform routine maintenance or updates to the database. By placing the file "App_Offline.htm" in the application's root directory, ASP.NET 2.0 will shut down the application and stop processing any new incoming requests. ASP.NET 2.0 will then send back to the user the contents of the .htm document. Use the .htm to provide user-friendly feedback on the status of your site.
