2010 Issue 1
For Microsoft Access, SQL Server,
Visual Studio .NET, and VB6 Professionals
Happy
New Year!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2010! We're very excited by the new
initiatives at Microsoft with Office 2010 soon and their new Azure platform for cloud
computing. We've been working with Azure for over a year and look
forward to introducing a whole new way
to share Windows/Office/Access data over the web. Stay tuned for more information on that,
and how you'll be able to create solutions at a fraction of the cost
before. Interested? Please share your ideas with me on my
blog for cloud computing.
The new year didn't start out so well for our friends in Haiti. Our condolences
and sympathies go out to all who were affected by the earthquake. We're
pleased that our work developing the
Logistics
Support System for the
Pan American Health Organization and UN is deployed in Haiti and helping
coordinate the humanitarian relief response. This Windows and Web
solution was designed to work in disaster zones, support local
languages, and communicate with donors and suppliers where getting the
right supplies to the right location at the right time is absolutely
critical. We're thankful we can make a difference.
Another one of our clients, the George Washington University Business
School, is having a contest for female entrepreneurs. So if you are one,
or know someone who should apply, please direct them to the
Hot Mommas Case Study Competition, where they can enter
and learn from other women.

Managing Disaster Relief in Haiti
When
natural or man-made disasters strike, getting the right
supplies to the right location is a matter of life and
death. International humanitarian relief organizations
coordinate the distribution of relief supplies and personnel
from around the world to disaster zones. The
Pan American
Health Organization (PAHO), part of the World Health
Organization (WHO), is a leader in providing assistance
during these crises. As the heart of their Humanitarian
Supply Management System, the
Logistics
Support System (LSS) manages the distribution of relief
supplies. When PAHO needed an organization to replace their
outdated system, they turned to FMS to create LSS. Deployed
in over 100 countries and used in dozens of major disasters,
LSS is currently being used in response to the earthquake in
Haiti. We wish everyone the very best during such trying
times.
