Advanced Systems Group

The FMS Advanced Systems Group (ASG) is a dedicated team within FMS whose sole focus is to deliver practical solutions to the complex data problems facing many intelligence community missions.  Building on our success to date, this division is specifically chartered to continue our efforts to design, develop, and deploy the next generation of analytical software.  Working closely with our systems integrators and intelligence community partners, ASG has been successful in bringing several new concepts to reality in concentrated areas.

Primary Personnel

Luke Chung, President, founded FMS in 1986 to provide custom database solutions. He  has directed the company’s product development and consulting services efforts as the database industry evolved. In addition to being a primary author and designer of many FMS commercial products, Luke has personally provided consulting services to a wide range of clients. A recognized database expert and highly regarded authority in the Microsoft Access developer community, Luke was featured by Microsoft as an Access Hero during Access' 10 year anniversary celebration. Luke is a popular speaker at conferences in the US and Europe, and has published many articles in industry magazines. He is a past president of the Washington, DC chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO), serves on the Fairfax County School Superintendent's Community Advisory Council, and is a graduate of Harvard University with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Engineering and Applied Sciences.
 
Dan Haught, Executive Vice President, is globally recognized as a software development expert and brings extensive experience building database applications using state-of-the-art technology and program management to complex client engagements. Dan has a UNIX/C programming background, and is an expert in Access, VB, SQL, Visual Studio .NET and web development. He is the primary developer of several FMS products, a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and a contributing editor to several magazines including Advisor Access/VB/SQL and ASP.NET PRO. Dan has co-authored several books on software development, including the Microsoft Jet Database Engine Programmer's Guide (Microsoft Press). He is responsible for new product origination, ensures that all FMS products and solutions employ standards-based best practices, and manages the daily operations of the development teams. Dan joined FMS in 1992.
 
Michelle Swann, Vice President of Professional Solutions Group, is a Microsoft Certified Professional in SQL Server and has published technical articles in Advisor’s Access/VB/SQL Server magazine. Michelle is an accomplished .Net, Access, SQL Server, and Visual Basic developer. and successfully developed, delivered and supported major client server systems. Examples include an Access ADP and SQL Server application for the District of Columbia’s Department of Public Works, a complex n-tier Visual Basic and SQL Server application for the Washington Speaker’s Bureau, an Omnicom Group company, and a .Net and SQL Server application for MediVia and Health Sciences Corporation. Michelle joined FMS in 1999 and was promoted through the ranks from developer to her current VP responsibilities.
 

Jim Ferguson, Senior Application Architect, has 20 years of extensive database design and programming experience on a variety of mainframe, minicomputer, SQL, and PC platforms. In addition to being regarded as one of the leading Visual Studio .NET experts in the industry today, he is a Microsoft MVP for his support of Access and Visual Basic and a Microsoft Certified Professional. Well versed in many technologies including ADO, ASP, ASP.NET, C#/VB.NET, COM+, Cobol, Commerce Server, and IIS, he is the primary developer of several FMS products. Over the years he has also consulted with a number of prominent clients such as General Electric, Procter & Gamble, DuPont, Omnicom, and the National Association of Broadcasters. Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and co-authored Microsoft Jet Database Engine Programmer's Guide (Microsoft Press). He was the technical editor of Using Microsoft Access 2000 and Roger Jenning's Database Developer's Guide with Visual Basic 6. He has also published technical articles in Smart Access and Visual Studio Magazine. Jim joined FMS in 1994.
