Press Release
Total Access Startup for
Microsoft Access 2007 Ships
Centrally
Manage Access Databases and Versions
VIENNA, VA – March 13, 2008 — FMS is
pleased to announce Total Access Startup 2007 is now shipping with
support for Microsoft Access versions through Access 2007. Total Access Startup
makes it easy to centrally manage Access databases and versions. Ideal for
Access developers and network/database managers, Total Access Startup lets users
seamlessly launch their Access applications and always use the latest version of
their database with the right version of Access.
For best practices, Microsoft Access applications are usually divided into a
front-end application database and a back-end data repository/database. For
optimal performance, the front-end database is installed on each user's desktop.
Making sure each user has the latest copy and is running the right version of
Access can be challenging and time consuming.
Total Access Startup simplifies the process of distributing Access databases to
every user's desktop and ensures the latest version is installed each time it's
launched. Separate options are available for a first time installation versus an
update if additional installation routines are required.
With multiple versions of Access on users' machines, launching the right version
of Access is critical. Total Access Startup specifies which version of Access
should be launched with the database and what to do if a user doesn't have that
version installed.
Written in a lightweight manner that requires no dependencies on a user's
machine, Total Access Startup creates a Windows shortcut that is distributed to
each user to start the application. When launched, it checks the network to make
sure the latest version of the database is installed and launches it with the
right version of Access. This centralized management makes it easy to distribute
upgrades and migrate between Access versions by making changes in one place.
"With Total Access Startup, developers can focus on enhancing their applications
rather than the hassles of distributing them to each desktop every time," said Luke Chung,
President of FMS. "Our enterprise customers have found Total Access Startup particularly
beneficial and cost effective for distributing Access databases across their networks,
while maintaining centralized control."
Total Access Startup was independently tested by Microsoft/VeriTest to meet
Windows deployment standards, and is the only Microsoft Access specific product
to receive this level of verification.
New Features
Total Access Startup was originally released in 2003 for Microsoft Access 2003.
Many new features are in the 2007 release:

ACCDB database file format

the user's My Documents directory
- An optional message to show the user when an update is
installed
