"FMS designs and develops many of the best Access add-on products I've seen...FMS also created an Access add-on that I highly recommend, because preparing an application for the year 2000 can be tedious, error-prone, and very time-consuming. Total Access Inspector 2000 is a detective that searches through your Access database and helps you find potential year 2000 problems. You can then view or print a variety of reports that highlight the objects and items you need to review."

"Access Developers need to be prepared for the year 2000. No matter how compliant a product is, the possibility exists that developers can use it to create a non-compliant solution," said Bien. "As a software tool designed specifically to address Year 2000 and other date-related considerations in Access, Total Access Inspector 2000 helps developers identify the compliance of the solutions they build."

Are Your Access Databases Ready for 2000?

According to Microsoft

Access 2.0 Not Year 2000 Compliant
Access 95 Year 2000 Compliant with Issues
Access 97 Year 2000 Compliant with Issues

Do you think you're safe because. . . .

  • Year 2000 does not apply to PCs?
  • Access is a "modern" database?
  • Access stores dates with 4-digit years?
  • Access runs when you set the clock past 1999?
  • You can use the Windows Control Panel to change Short Date to 4-digit years?

If you believe these and other Access Year 2000 myths, you are NOT Ready!

Contrary to the conventional wisdom, "modern" desktop applications are not always Year 2000 compliant. Just because your database runs when you move the clock past 1999 does not mean it is ready for the Year 2000. Just because date fields can store dates with 4-digit years does not mean your program is putting dates into those fields correctly, or displaying them properly or forms and reports.

More importantly, many custom Access applications never took Year 2000 issues into account. Do you know how and where dates are used and manipulated in queries, forms, reports, macros, and module code?

The result? Applications that are not ready for Year 2000 with potentially disastrous effects. There are different issues for each version of Access. Regardless of which Access version you use, you must take action to ensure that your applications will work correctly!

Fortunately, databases created in every version of Access, including Access 2.0, can be made Year 2000 compliant. You just need to find everywhere you are using dates and make sure they always use four-digit years.

Year 2000 issues for Access are not focused on whether Access or your database will crash after 1999. Most likely, they will run. The question is whether they will run correctly. Errors with display, data entry, printing, and calculations are extremely difficult to detect thoroughly. Total Access Inspector 2000 examines all your database objects to flag Year 2000 problems, date usage, and potential date usage.

You must FIND and VERIFY every use of dates in each of your databases!

Choose the Best

Designed specifically for Access, Total Access Inspector 2000 is simply the most comprehensive Year 2000 tool for Access. Based on our years of Access database analysis experience, FMS led the research into Year 2000 issues in Access and created Total Access Inspector 2000 to address the many problems users and developers face. No other tool detects as many Year 2000 issues in Access databases as Total Access Inspector 2000!

Don't Be Fooled by Other Products

Several products now claim to support Access or even fix your problems. Unfortunately, many of these products are adapted from Year 2000 tools on other platforms and are extremely limited in what they can detect in Access. Total Access Inspector 2000 runs as an Access add-in. That's the only way to get to all the Access objects and properties.

There is No Quick Fix! Year 2000 compliance requires understanding your databases, takes time, and involves manual work. You need to see where dates are used, determine how they are used, and make sure they are used correctly. In most cases, they are probably okay, but the whole point of Year 2000 compliance is finding and fixing the few places where problems arise. There is no easy solution.

Even a simple task such as changing a date format to display four-digit years requires manual work. Changing the setting is the easiest part. You still need to manually test and verify the control is wide enough to display all the digits. Truncated or word-wrapped dates are a very common problem and widening the control is not enough. Alignment and overlap problems occur that require your judgment to fix.

For Year 2000 compliance, you must pick the most comprehensive tool. Best of all, it comes from FMS, the company most committed to the Access developer community!

Selecting a product that only detects a portion of potential Year 2000 problems is a waste of your time and money!

Total Access Inspector 2000: The Obvious Choice

In the end, if you choose an alternative product, you'll still have to run Total Access Inspector 2000. Year 2000 compliance efforts are based on finding a needle in a haystack. Missing the needle could result in your application's failure. Choosing a product that only detects a portion of what Total Access Inspector 2000 finds is a waste of your time. Total Access Inspector 2000 not only flags specific Year 2000 problems, actual and potential date usage, but also gives you the information necessary to verify things are correct. Examples include data analysis, field cross-reference, form control analysis, module code printouts, and much more! In addition to the program, Total Access Inspector 2000 includes a detailed 100 page user manual and on-line help file that not only describe Year 2000 problems, but also solutions. We've also priced it at a fraction of what many other vendors charge for Year 2000 products.

Choose the Best! There simply is no better Access tool for Year 2000 compliance than Total Access Inspector 2000.

Created by THE Microsoft Access Year 2000 Experts

Knowledge and Experience

Total Access Inspector 2000 is created by FMS, the leading developer of Access third party products. We have been in business for over twelve years developing quality software products for tens of thousands of customers in over 100 countries. We led the research into Year 2000 issues in Microsoft Access and Office, and revealed many serious and potential Year 2000 problems that Microsoft and their users face. Not everyone agreed with us when we first sounded the alarm several years ago, but it is now common knowledge. Year 2000 issues affect desktop applications, especially databases!

We've published numerous articles on Access and the Year 2000 in publications such as Access/VB Advisor. Our top two people, Luke Chung (president) and Dan Haught (vice president of product development), are experts on this issue and have presented popular sessions at many user groups and conferences including Microsoft sponsored events such as TechEd, Access/VB Advisor DevCon, and the Microsoft Office and VBA Solutions Conference. Papers on those talks are available for free on our web site as a public service to the Access community (click here). Microsoft may even use them as their official Year 2000 whitepapers, but they've been stuck in their legal department for months.

Why We Created Total Access Inspector 2000

FMS did not create Total Access Inspector 2000 to capitalize on the Year 2000 bandwagon. In fact, it was the result of our Year 2000 research and Microsoft's decision not to provide a tool that Total Access Inspector 2000 was born. FMS is focused on helping Access developers become more productive. Total Access Inspector 2000 is only one of our 10 Access products and our only Year 2000 tool. Our primary concern is that Access users and developers will discover problems with their databases in 2000 and blame Microsoft or Access. We created Total Access Inspector 2000 as the best Access Year 2000 tool, so you can diagnose your databases today and be ready for 2000.

Based on our extensive research into the subject, Total Access Inspector 2000 was designed and developed with the direct participation of both Luke Chung and Dan Haught.

Learn about Year 2000 Issues
